it's some pastel pencils on plain 80g printer paper - since then it was laminated on wood and sold (my first original to be sold, and, as it meant a lot to me, I still miss it)

I had a period when I used them a lot, some pastel colored pencils on white paper, not the pastel stick kind.
now I'm more into ink or graphite

How do you start a piece when using ink?

you start with pencil, draw softly
when you have the shape you want (even with all the other lines around it) you use ink, precision pen for instance (with pigment inks, check in art shops they have such pens), and only draw those contours that matter
after that you erase the pencil (the pen should remain) - and you're left with a clean drawing
now you can add the shadows with a brush pen or marker
